The Seder Sour

Recipe

1.50 oz.: No. 209 Kosher-for-Passover Gin
0.50 oz.: warmed honey
0.12 oz.: Kosher for Passover horseradish
1.00 oz.: lemon juice
: soda water
: tiny pinch of Kosher salt

Add all the ingredients into a mixing tin. Either shake or stir the contents without ice to make sure the honey dissolves into the solution. Add crushed ice, cover and shake vigorously for 15 seconds. Strain into a chilled martini glass, top with a dash of soda water, and garnish with a sprig of parsley.

Drink Inspiration

The Seder Sour was created because I was writing about the fabulous story of the No. 209 Kosher for Passover Gin for an issue of San Francisco Magazine. I celebrate Passover with my mother (the Jewish side of the family), but we're not particularly religious and definitely not kosher. But one thing I learned in doing the story was how large a market there is for kosher foods for Passover. I had no idea there was such high demand for things like, well, kosher gin. So I thought, if there's a desire for gin, why not a cocktail to go along with the article I was writing. I developed my bartending chops by working at Cantina, one of SF's best cocktail bars, so I knew how to create a balanced cocktail. Throwing in Seder staples like horseradish and parsley made sense. As it turned out, horseradish was a brilliant flavor combo with the gin.
