Drink Inspiration
With regard to the recipe- I was looking from an angle of ‘the cocktail hour’ as I believe it is termed stateside or as the brief was – an aperitif style pre-prandial drink. So something quite stiff and flavoursome to kick off the evening. With this in mind, I started with the idea of a short strong drink rather than say a Collins or long thirst-quenching style cocktail. I then tried to build a unique and complimentary flavour profile around the 209 gin. To my mind plum, liquorice and rhubarb go together quite well and is not something I had seen used before I introduced the liquorice also because it is quite a common botanical in gin flavouring. The Pruscia plum liqueur is a wonderfully crafted product and the rhubarb preserve brought a textural element from a ‘Breakfast Martini’ –Gin, Marmalade, Cointreau, lemon. The lemon gives the sour to balance and the repeal bitters adds another dimension that is again complimentary to the above flavours and slightly reduces the perceived sweetness.
